Olive growing has always accompanied the history of the people of the Belice. The first settlements in this area are related to the birth of Selinunte, the ancient colony of Magna Grecia, founded in the seventh century BC. The “Selinuntuni” cultivated and propagated the olive tree, colonizing Valle del Belice and devoting themselves to the extraction of oil since those times, as millstones found in the area of "Latomie" dating back to the fifth century BC testify.

The Nocellara del Belice is the only olive that can boast of two Italian DOP awards (olives and olive oil).

The olives of this variety are distinguished by an excellent pulp / stone and are moderate in sugars. The drupe is large, spherical, and deep green turning vinous red as it matures. The flesh is crisp and easily detached from the core. The color is an intense green and the flavour is slightly sweet and sour with subtle spicy and bitter notes.
